Getting into NYC Kindergarten 2027: Public, Private, Charter & Gifted

We know: Families are still waiting to hear about waitlist movement for Kindergarten 2026 but, believe it or not, it’s time to get ready to apply to Kindergarten 2027!

Join Alina Adams, author of  “Getting into NYC Kindergarten” on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 6 PM for a workshop to discuss all of your options – and how to get them.

For public Kindergarten, there are zoned, unzoned, district wide, citywide, dual language, and Gifted & Talented schools.

How do you rank to maximize your odds of getting into your first choice? What role do lottery numbers play? How do you qualify for G&T? How old must your child be to start?

How does Hunter College Elementary School and other charter schools fit in?

What is the process for applying to private schools? Is there financial aid available?

What is the application timeline and when/how should you start planning?

We will cover all of these questions and more. (If there is interest, we will also discuss applying to public G&T, charter and private schools for 1st through 4th grade.) To make sure that everyone gets a chance to speak, space is extremely limited.

This is a Zoom event. A recording will be available for all registered participants upon email request.

YOUR ZOOM LINK TO JOIN WILL BE ON YOUR CONFIRMATION EMAIL RECEIPT.
